1. Reported Cases Related to Illegal Software Use

    * Adobe Software Illegal Use Issues

      - Installation and use of cracked versions of Adobe software on personal computers

    * Microsoft Operating System Illegal Use Issues

      - Usage of PCs (personal, custom-built, individually purchased) without proper license acquisition

         PCs purchased through the administration department as university assets are allowed to use the Microsoft OS provided by the university. Individually purchased PCs are not eligible and only OS upgrades are supported.)

    * Illegal Use of Specialized Software (Ansys, Autodesk, Fonts, etc.)

      - Use of such software for research projects, thesis writing, or certificate issuance that leads to public exposure and subsequent detection

    * Other Issues

      - Sharing illegal software usage methods (e.g., through documents or websites)

      - Creation of derivative works (e.g., promotional materials, theses, reports) using illegal software

      - Printing and distributing publications using fonts without proper licensing

2. Responsibilities Related to Software Copyright

    * The use of illegal software constitutes an individual legal offense, with the individual bearing full responsibility.

    * Criminal Liability

      - Up to 3 years of imprisonment or a fine of up to 30 million KRW for unauthorized use (without purchase)

      - Up to 5 years of imprisonment or a fine of up to 50 million KRW for illegal reproduction, distribution, rental, or creation of derivative works

    * Civil Liability

      - Compensation for damages and payment for the purchase of genuine software

2. Additional Information

    * Issues raised by companies such as Adobe regarding illegal software use can cause economic and legal harm to individuals and institutions. Proactive response is strongly recommended.

    * Adobe Acrobat Reader is available for free. For editing features, the Pro version must be purchased. University users with Hancom Office 2018 or later can use HanPDF to edit and encrypt PDF files.

    * Individuals or laboratories intending to use Adobe products must purchase them independently.
